Kia has just unveiled the first images of its upcoming first dedicated fully electric model, the Kia EV6 (formerly known by the code name “CV”), which premieres later this month at a special online event.

The car has been designed according to the new design philosophy of the “Opposites United” brand, inspired by the contrasts found in nature and humanity, and we have to admit that it is very attractive.

According to Kia, the EV6 is the result of a collaboration between the three studios of Kia’s global design network: in Namyang (Korea), Frankfurt (Germany) and Irvine (California, United States). The company intends to use this new design language in the following models.

Opposites United’s design philosophy is based on five key elements: “Bold for Nature”, “Joy for Reason”, “Power to Progress”, “Technology for Life” and “Tension for Serenity”, described by the manufacturer as follows :

Bold for nature is based on the interaction with nature, informed by the details, shapes and proportions found in both the natural and human world. This design pillar creates organic yet technical structures and finishes for vehicle interiors; exterior designs are characterized by a combination of clean, simple lines with bold and ever-changing surfaces.

Joy for the reason focuses on the feel and vibe of future Kia vehicles. Future designs will merge the emotional and the rational, creating vehicles that influence the mood of passengers, relaxing and inspiring them. It will also influence the adoption of new organics and bolder colors, expressing a sense of youth and playfulness.

Power of progress builds on the brand’s current design strengths. Building on and developing the skills and expertise gained throughout Kia’s recent era of design-driven transformation, the designs and layouts of the brand’s future products will continue to evolve. Future designs will draw on experience and creativity to invent and innovate new designs.

Technology for life adopts new technologies and innovations to promote positive interactions between humans and machines. Future vehicles for the brand will adopt a next-generation in-car user experience (UX) through design, innovation and advancements in in-vehicle lighting, feel and connectivity – to help customers engage with their cars.

Tension for serenity evokes the tension between opposing forces and creative contrasts, and recognizes the design balance that comes from two opposing forces. It offers striking design concepts that use sharp, highly technical details to create surface tension – and realize a harmonized, forward-looking design vision. “

Much like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6 is based on the new dedicated EV platform: Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which allows EVs to be built with very solid specifications, including a long range of 500 km. (311 miles), super-fast charging capability (replenishes 100 km / 62 miles of range in 4 minutes) and 0-100 km / h (62 mph) acceleration in 3 seconds. The exact specs for the EV6 model are yet to be announced.

If we combine the look of the car and the E-GMP platform, it looks like we will see a very serious competitor in the electric vehicle market. Depending on the price, the EV6 could sell very well.

The Kia EV6 appears to be a compact-sized car with a crossover-inspired design aesthetic. The key words used by the manufacturer are “modern”, “elegant” and “aerodynamic”.

The interesting details are: characteristic daytime running lights, low air intake at the front, with optimization of air flow (air is channeled through and under the flat floor of the car for optimal aerodynamics) , crisp lines and “High-tech details to create a sense of tension in the design”, a swept-back windshield, hidden door handles and bold rears.

On the side, there’s a character line that runs along the bottom of the doors, curving upward toward the rear wheel arches, which Kia says visually lengthens the profile of the car.

The rear is also interesting (beware of the absence of the rear wiper):

“Designed in part for ultimate aerodynamic performance, the rear features a sloped rear C-pillar with an integrated gloss black insert that visually widens the window. Above is a prominent roof spoiler that channels air downward. to a raised lower spoiler that sits atop the car’s single rear headlight assembly. “

Due to the E-GMP platform, the interior of the Kia EV6 is very spacious. The manufacturer has implemented a curved high definition audio / visual and navigation (AVN) display and has significantly limited the number of buttons and buttons compared to previous generations. There are several buttons on the steering wheel, and it looks like they will be very useful for controlling the most important functions.

We also like the central console with the storage space at the bottom and the wide armrest.

“One of the most striking features of the new interior is a seamless, high-tech curved high-definition audiovisual and navigation display (AVN). The simple form language of the large curved screen and slim dashboard gives the space a feeling of openness. Stretching from the steering wheel to the center of the car, it displays an instrument cluster in front of the driver, and infotainment and navigation above the center console. The width of the screen creates an immersive experience for driver, while a minimal number of physical buttons provide a clean and calming driving experience.

Below the AVN screen, passengers control HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) parameters using haptic “buttons”, while below this panel, the instrument panel tilts forward. the car, creating a feeling of space and openness for the front passenger seat.

The seats are slim, light and contemporary, and upholstered in modern, visually interesting and sturdy fabrics created from recycled plastics, which creates even more openness in the cabin. “

Overall, we are positively surprised with the Kia EV6. It is arguably the most attractive electric Kia ever made and we can’t wait to learn more about it.
